Egyptian Blogger Arrested

An Egyptian blogger was allegedly arrested on Saturday, by the state security forces after he published a book about the nuclear watchdog former chief and possible presidential candidate Mohammed El-Baradie.
Ahmed Mehanna, a 23-year blogger, is the owner of a publishing house called "Dawwin" (blog your self), recently published "El-Baradei And The Dream of Green Revolution" a book written by Kamal Geprial, and deals the EL-Baradie phenomenon in Egypt's politics.
Sources say Mehanna was arrested on Saturday morning, on the background of publishing the book.
"Security forces illegally raided Mehanna's house, confiscating his pc and mobile phone..before they took him to an unknown place where his attorney and family members could reached," the 6 April youth movement reported on saturday.
The ministry of interior did not comment or publish a statement on the issue.
"A number of state security officers have raided Mehanna's house in Matarya (a neighbourhood in eastern Cairo) when he was not present, and called him from his house telling him he had to get back home now, and gave him a 30-mimute respite to come whatever his place was," the movement's website added.
After his arrival, the officers reportedly confiscated his mobile phone and dismantled his pc to confiscate the hard disc. they warned Mehanna's father of trying to escalate the issue "for (Mehanna's) good"
Mohmmed
After leaving his post on top of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in December and returning to his native Egypt, El-Baradie, 67, plunged into Egypt's politics. The former diplomat formed the Egyptian Association for Change, in an attempt to change Egypt's constitution before the next parliamentary elections in 2010 and presidential elections in 2011.
EL-Baradie who received hero welcome during his arrival at Cairo's International Airport on Friday, 18 Feburay, has energized Egypt's stagnant politics when he announced his serious readiness to challenges the 82-years - old incumbent president Hosni Mubark.
Mubark, who underwent a surgery in Germany recently, has not announced whether he will seek to run for a 6th period.
Egypt, a key US regional ally, is the most populous arab nation with a population, more than 40% of which, live on less than 2 $ a day.
El Baradie has become a sign of hope for change for many Egyptians who believe Mr. Muabrak is grooming his younger son, Gamal to succeed him.
The Front for Advocating Egypt's Demonstrators, a human right's group in cairo, filed a complaint with the office of the Egyptian attorney general asking for Mehanna's release.
Mostafa El-Hoseiny, a cofounder of Dawin, said the security forces searched Mehanna's house in Matarya and turned it upside down to find and confiscate copies of the book though it has already been available in the markets since last week.
Mohammed El-Ghazaly, a young writer, who was standing before the Amiria police station, Cairo, said he knew Mehanna was taken to Amiria and arrested there. El ghazaly's attempts to see Mehanna failed because the visit was not authorized as he was told by officers there.
Mehnna recently released "Eghtrap"(expatriation), a collection of short stories.
A group of young Egyptian on Face Book designed a banner calling for the authorities to free Mehanna.

Mubarak: Baradei can run for president but must respect constitution

In his first public remarks ever since the return of former IAEA chief Mohammed El Baradei to egypt last Febuary, Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak said his regime would not block El Baradei's running for the presidential elections in 2011, if he respected the constitution.
"Egypt does not nead a national hero," Mubarak said in a press conferece in Berlin with German chancelor Angelina Mircle on thursday.
Since his return to egypt in febuary 18, el barady called for more demoracy in egypt and helped create the so called "national association for reforming the constitution." later on el baradei said in an interview with reuters that change is inevitable and that change is the only way for avoiding a possible clash.
the former diplomat has yet to decide whether he will run, and says he is more intested in creating a democratic system in egypt.
president Mubarak, 81, has not also announced whether he will seek a sixth term. But its widely believed that mubarak is grooming his younger son, mr. gamal mubarak, 46 a former banker who runs the powerful policies committee in the ruling national democratic party NDP. Gamal is widely credited for a liberalization process of eygpt's economie. If he is elected, Gamal will be the first ever president of egypt out of the military since Gamal Abdel Nasser took over the countery in a military coup in 1952.

The El Baradei Effect

The bespectacled international diplomat with white mustache brought about a new movement into Egypt's politics. An unusual policitical atmosphere for many like me who were born after president Hosni Mubarak claimed presidency in 1981 and knew no other presidents.
Even when egypt hold its first multi-candidate presidential elections, there have not been such policitical furor made by El Baradei's return to egypt in 18 febuary.
The former international atomic energy agency was immediately attacked in the state controlled press after he said he may seek to run against president Mubarak in the coming elections in 2011.
